Who are the Columbian Squires?
The Columpian Squires are the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus. They consist of young Catholic men between the ages of 10 and 18 and are organized into units called "circles."   The father does not have to be a Knights of Columbus member for the young man to join.

What is the purpose of the Columbian Squires?
The Columbian Squires program was developed to enhance a young man's opportunities in life - a chance to receive the leadership training and moral guidance needed to succeed.   With so many types of organizations for younger men in today's world, this Catholic organization builds character and develops leadership.

What are the Columbian Squires activities?
A squire has a chance to participate in many different kinds of activities. Programming includes four standing committees:

  • spiritual activities.
  • service activities
  • circle activities
  • membership activities
The goal of each committee is to organize and complete at least four different activities each year.    This provides the opportunities for growth in areas such as decision making, delegation of responsibility, administration, public speaking, public relations, record-keeping, financial responsibility, and program promotion.

The squires are not just participants in the activities.   They plan them, organize them, finance them, promote them, and carry them to completion.

How do Columbian Squires learn these skills?
Your counsellors will guide, advise, and assist you in learning the skills needed to complete your programs - but yours is the responsibility for how well theseprograms are carried out.

What can I expect to get out of their program?
The circle's programs will enrich you in many ways:

  • They will confirm your commitment to the Church and strengthen your moral character.
  • You will gain a sense of diversity of people in the world, and find your own place within the community.
  • They will teach you the value of charitable activities.
  • They will help your body grow strong and prepare you for working with other people by fostering team spirit.
  • You will become more comfortable in any social situation.
  • They will increase your awareness of other young men - and of your responsibility toward their growth, as well as your own.
  • You will become a better person.
